Some Premier League matches could be played in other countries

February 11, 2008 - at General

In a in London on February 7, the 20 Premier League clubs supported an international round proposal and agreed to further examine a proposal that will create 10 competitive fixtures to be played across the world in cities like, for example, Hong Kong, Dubai, Los Angeles or Singapore over one weekend in January beginning season 2010/11.
This international round would be in addition to the traditional 38 home and away matches each of the 20 Premier League Clubs currently play.
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said: “We are proud the Barclays Premier League is viewed as the stongest domestic football competition in the world by fans at home and abroad, and we are committed to maintaining this position”.
The ‘international round’ is an exciting and innovative proposal that needs careful consideration before being introduced. The additional matches could be determined in a draw but the five principal clubs could avoid to fight between them. Anyway the final decision will be taken next summer in the annual meeting of Premier League.
